Many species of birds and mammals make their home here (bald eagles, great blue herons, elk, bison, deer, beaver, mink, etc.); over 230 waterfalls (tallest is Smith falls 63\\'') are found along the river valley and cliff\\''s and rapids make up this unique and nationally significant river of the Great Plains.
