  • UCP helps raise the public awareness and understanding of the special needs of children and adults with cerebral palsy. In addition, they provide programs and services to people with all types of orthopedic disabilities, including spina bifida and muscular dystrophy.

    Concerned individuals and parents of children with cerebral palsy established United Cerebral Palsy of Delaware in 1953. This small group hoped to raise the public’s awareness and understanding of the special needs of children with this disability.

    Over the years, UCP has expanded its capabilities by providing programs and services to people with all types of orthopedic disabilities, including spina bifida and muscular dystrophy. Today UCP of DE, Inc. is a statewide organization providing a variety of social, residential, recreational and educational programs, as well as referral, advocacy and respite care services to over 1,300 clients and their families throughout New Castle, Kent and Sussex counties.

    What started with parents and friends is today a statewide organization dedicated to community living and community integration.

    Mission

    Their mission is to improve the overall quality of life of children and adults with physical disabilities and their families.

    To Carry Out And Achieve Its Mission, United Cerebral Palsy of Delaware, Inc. will:
    • Support active community integration, inclusive education and productive employment of people with disabilities in the mainstream of society
    • Promote awareness and understanding of issues and research that impact upon people with disabilities,
    • Collaborate with other agencies to support the empowerment of people with disabilities,
    • Advocate for the rights of people with disabilities,
    • Generate financial and human resources for improved services to people with disabilities.
