• The Medicine Horse Center offers assisted therapy programs to children and adults with physical, intellectual, or emotional disabilities.

The Medicine Horse, a NARHA Member since 2000, has developed from a therapeutic riding center serving a handful of clients, into a growing equine-assisted therapy center, offering the following services:

• THERAPEUTIC RIDING
  Supervised riding activities selected to provide opportunities for the challenged rider to accomplish physical, emotional, social or cognitive goals.
• HIPPOTHERAPY
  The Medicine Horse certified instructor works hand-in-hand with a licensed Physical, Occupational or Speech Therapist utilizing the horse as a living, breathing, therapy tool. These sessions are oftentimes conducted with the horse in long lines, enabling the horse's gaits to be utilized to their full potential, in an effort to simulate the rhythm of human gait patterns.
• EQUINE ASSISTED PSYCHOTHERAPY
  The Medicine Horse staff and horses partner with counseling professionals to address mental health and developmental issues directly and effectively. Horses have proven to be versatile and dynamic assistants in therapy. Equine assisted therapy effectively minimizes a client's time in treatment due to its ability to bring issues to the surface in a non-threatening environment.
• EQUINE EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING
  Medicine Horse can provide a positive impact using the horse as a tool for emotional growth and learning. This program can be offered in school systems, counseling centers, youth detention centers, shelters and youth coalition groups. It can be especially helpful introducing inner city youth to a different way of experiencing life.
• ELDER PROGRAMS
  Medicine Horse has been effective in helping the elder community stay connected to the present and enjoy a fuller life through a partnership with horses. The exercise benefits of working with and riding horses help keep elders fit, strong, and able to effectively perform activities of daily living. Independence is the key to fulfillment in elder years. Medicine Horse Seniors Programs help keep bodies toned and minds tuned, while offering a healthy and fun social outlet. Those who have come to the Center with Alzheimer's Disease or other types of dementia have shown that connecting with horses helps connection with self.
• LIFE ENHANCEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT
  Medicine Horse can offer programs specifically designed for life enhancement opportunities. This includes male and female specific groups, which will address topics such as self-esteem, communication, relationships, etc. These groups use both connection with the outdoors and horses to break through interpersonal, "stuck" areas. Some groups can be challenge-oriented, pushing people past their traditional ideas of their own limitations.
• EQUINE REHABILITATION
  Medicine Horse is committed to helping horses in need of rehabilitation, so they can be used either as therapy horses or relocated to good homes.
