Description
  • Parca is a private, nonprofit organization serving people with developmental disabilities and their families. Developmental disabilities include intellectual disability, autism, cerebral palsy, epilepsy and other similar neurological disorders. Formed in 1952, Parca's mission is to provide high-quality programs, services and advocacy to children, adults and families in the Bay Area from the Silicon Valley to Marin to the East Bay.

Children's Services includes the REACH integrated child care program for kids with and without developmental disabilities and the Raji House respite care program for children and teens with developmental disabilities on weekends. These programs use positive learning and recreational activities to emphasize the similarities between each person rather than the differences. All Parca children's programs are licensed by the Department of Social Services. Adult Services provide training and support services to assist clients in mastering self-reliance and independence to their highest personal level. Family Support Services is a resource for parents, offering support and information from the moment they learn they're going to have a baby with disabilities. Recreation Programs offer organized trips, a theater group, square dancing, a softball team, bowling and many other fun and educational activities.

Notes

Parca REACH program:
Located next to Crestmoor Elementary School in San Bruno, REACH is a fully integrated, state licensed program providing before and after school childcare to 38 children, ages 5-12. Parca teachers schedule daily activities that emphasize learning, fun and multicultural tastes.

Established in 1982, REACH has evolved into a model day care. The program maintains a teacher to child ratio of 1:8 and in some instances is as low as 1:3. This provides children with a great deal of individualized assistance. The experienced staff is trained in first aid and CPR and they emphasize an atmosphere of caring and acceptance as well growth and learning.

Families can choose from a variety of schedules for before and after school care Monday through Friday between 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. A limited number of subsidized child care slots are available for families who meet the income criteria set by the California Department of Education. Private pay is also available.

During the summer months, REACH operates a Day Camp with many exciting trips to area attractions such as theme parks, baseball games and museums. The summer camp is funded, in part, by the Golden Gate Regional Center for eligible children. Private pay is available as well.
