• Physical activity can maintain functioning and prevent disability among the growing older adult population in the United States; however, older adults frequently lack practical knowledge about programs that are tailored to their needs. In 1998, the Senior Health Alliance Promoting Exercise (SHAPE) was formed to raise awareness about this important public health issue. SHAPE is a consortium of organizations committed to serving seniors across Cook County.

  SHAPE's main objective is to increase awareness of the importance of participation in physical activity among older adults in Cook County.
  
  It is our hope that these continuous and comprehensive links to community resources will enable older adults to engage in physical activity and thereby maintain their health and maximize their independent functioning.
