  • The American Lung Association of Iowa is a statewide health organization supported by legions of dedicated volunteers, a professional staff and the state's leading experts in lung disease. We envision a world free of lung disease. Our mission is to make that vision a reality by preventing lung disease and promoting lung health.

    The American Lung Association of Iowa is an affiliate of the National American Lung Association. Ninety percent of all money remains local and seventy-seven percent (77%) of each dollar raised is used for program services.

The American Lung Association of Iowa strives to meet its mission through research, education, and public advocacy. Services are funded through the generous support of the community.

The services and programs of the American Lung Association of Iowa include:

  • Funding qualified clinical, basic science, and behavioral lung health research.
  • Providing the latest information on lung health, medications, and medical treatments through printed materials and our website, www.lungia.org.
  • Professional assistance with lung health questions through our Lung HelpLine, accessible through our toll-free number, 800-548-8252 or 800-LUNG-USA.
  • Smoking cessation programs for adults and teens, and our Tobacco QuitLine accessible through our 866-QUIT-YES number.
  • School based tobacco prevention education programs including NOT(Not On Tobacco), a smoking cessation program for teens, TATU(Teens Against Tobacco Use), a teen education program that uses a peer education approach to prevent youth smoking.
  • Family asthma education program for children and adults.
  • Asthma Certification Programs for children and adults.
  • Summer camps for children with asthma.
  • Support groups and rehabilitation programs for adults suffering from chronic lung disease.
