Wildly distorted and dehumanizing representations of disabled people in the movies go back to the early days of filmmaking. A panel of activists, scholars and performers discuss how film has shaped the social consciousness of disability. Panelists include Susan Nussbaum, playwright and disability rights activist, and Carrie Sandahl, a faculty member in the Department of Disability and Human Development at UIC, producer, director, of solo and collaborative performance art pieces and video work that participate in the creation of disability culture.
