The Clagett Family Research Grant is intended to fund researchers investigating exercise interventions to improve activity and participation in older adults with multiple chronic conditions. This $300,000 grant was named in honor of Lansdale Clagett and his wife, Gladys, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Landsdale contracted polio as a young adult, and after more than 20 years of physical therapy at a local hospital and the support of a visiting physical therapist, he fulfilled his dream of leaving his wheelchair and walking on his own again.

This two-year grant is one of the largest funding mechanisms provided by the Foundation since the Clinical Research Network (PTClinResNet) in 2002. This funding mechanism is unique for the Foundation because it encourages collaborative, multidisciplinary teams to apply, rather than just a single investigator.
