NCHPAD - Building Healthy Inclusive Communities

From the Information Specialist's Desk: NCHPAD Marches in Like a Lion

This March, NCHPAD is pleased to announce not one, but two new factsheets that highlight advances in the field of physical activity and fitness for people with disabilities in the following newsletter section (http://www.ncpad.org/newsletter/736/3910/March~2009). The new 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services include a section specific to adults with disabilities and also incorporate children and adolescents with disabilities into the chapter on Active Children and Adolescents. Go to our new factsheet to see a summary of the adult guidelines and access links to resources from the Department. In addition, we now have a detailed factsheet describing the recently created specialty certification from the American College of Sports Medicine and NCHPAD called the Certified Inclusive Fitness Trainer (CIFT). A CIFT is a fitness professional involved in developing and implementing an individualized exercise program for a person who may have a physical, sensory, or cognitive disability.

Stay tuned in April for more new NCHPAD resources - we don't plan on going "out like a lamb!"
