The days of summer are upon us, and temperatures are rising. It's a perfect time for outdoor activities that involve water! Recreational kayaking and rowing are growing in popularity and are great ways to not only get a workout, but also to stay cool and explore scenic areas.
This month's Community Voice piece tells how one man with spinal cord injury uses exercise, including kayaking, to enhance his health and happiness. In addition, the Emerging Evidence in Health and Disability column highlights research on kayak ergometer training in persons with paraplegia, and the NUDGE column features adaptive rowing equipment. Whether your physical endeavors are on land or sea this summer, maintain adequate hydration, and see this month's Nutrition Spotlight for tips on avoiding dehydration this summer. Exercise smart, be safe, and most of all, have fun!
