The Albert and Mary Lasker Foundation Medical Research Awards

Nominations for the 2007 Albert Lasker Medical Research Awards are sought in two key categories: Basic Medical Research and Clinical Medical Research.

The major purpose of these awards is to recognize and honor individuals who have made significant contributions in basic or clinical research in diseases that are the main cause of death and disability. The award winners may reside in any country of the world, and are intended to recognize contributions that have opened new fields of research, advancing novel concepts or applications in a particular biomedical discipline.

Deadline for nominations is February 1, 2007. Complete nomination guidelines and materials, as well as information on previous Lasker laureates, can be found on the Lasker Foundation website at http://fconline.foundationcenter.org/pnd/10005307/laskerfoundation; http://www.laskerfoundation.org/.

IOC/IAKS Award for Exemplary Sports & Leisure Facility Accessibility

The International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Association for Sports and Leisure Facilities (IAKS), and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and IAKS will again offer the IPC/IAKS Distinction for Accessibility.

The IPC/IAKS Distinction recognizes the world's best accessible sports and leisure facilities and aims to promote accessibility to sports facilities and other buildings in order to give persons with a disability the opportunity to practice or view sport without limitation or barriers. 2007 is the second year that the IPC/IAKS Distinction for Accessibility will be awarded.

The award is open to clients/operators and architects/engineers of facilities. The facilities (new, extended, or modernized) must have been in successful operation for at least one year. According to their use and location, they are assigned to different facility categories and assessed according to certain selection criteria. An international jury of representatives from the IOC, the IPC, and IAKS will judge the entries. For more information and entry forms, please visit www.iaks.info
