  • An article about NCPAD's role in improving the health of people with disabilities was recently published in the Impact newsletter in the edition, Enhancing Quality and Coordination of Health Care for Persons with Chronic Illness and/or Disabilities.   1. April is National Autism Awareness Month. See more at the Autism Society of America website http://www.ncpad.org/689/3132/2005-04-01#2.
    • Act early to detect autism: Delays in playing, learning, speaking, and acting could indicate a developmental problem, including autism. The good news is that early recognition allows you to help your child reach his or her full potential. Learn more at http://www.ncpad.org/689/3132/2005-04-01#3.
    • Attend a one-day seminar on "Nutrition Therapy for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder," by Elizabeth Strickland, MS, RD, LD. Go to http://www.ncpad.org/689/3132/2005-04-01#4 for seminars in your area.
    • The National Autism Association’s Helping Hand Program is now awarding a grant of up to $1,500 to families in need of financial assistance for biomedical treatments, supplements, therapies, basic living expenses, etc. for their child with autism.   2. International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Distinction for Accessibility: The "IPC Distinction for Accessibility" award will be bestowed on a sport or leisure facility that has excelled in providing opportunities for persons with a disability to practice and view sport.   3. The Bright Futures Family Pocket Guide is now published in Spanish. The guide prepares and reinforces families as key partners in their children's health and healthy habits at http://www.ncpad.org/689/3132/2005-04-01#7. The guide is useful for children with and without disabilities.
