Patients in this study demonstrated a link between sleep duration and quality and glycemic control. This research is unique because it takes into consideration "perceived sleep debt", a measure of habitual sleep time and subjective sleep need. The researchers suggest that in a modern society in which sleep deprivation is increasingly common, one must consider the potential impact of this behavior on the current epidemic of type 2 diabetes.
