What Kind of Exercise is Best for Optimal Bone Health?


  • Load- (weight-) bearing
  • Performed at a high intensity
  • Involves a variety of different types of training
  • Challenges every muscle group in the body

Both cardiovascular and strength training should be used in an exercise program designed to affect bone. Flexibility training should also be included in the training program to prevent injury and to improve balance. Training should be performed for at least one year for results to occur and then should be continued thereafter. Keep in mind that depending on the state of one's bone health, exceptions may need to be made to some or all guidelines.
