Physical Therapy Department Services

Clients in our program range in age from approximately 30 to 90 years (mean age 55) and encompass a vast range of disabilities including autism, cerebral palsy, seizure disorders, Down syndrome, and I/DD. The Physical Therapy Department offers a full and comprehensive array of services, including annual evaluations, treatment after fractures, positioning programs, education for home staff, equipment monitoring, vascular assessment including edema (swelling) control using custom compression hose, and extensive standing and walking programs to facilitate and maintain mobility and functional level. We are well aware of the need to increase the activity level of the clients as only about 15% of adults in the general population participate in regular physical activity for 30 minutes per day, and even fewer adults with I/DD engage in physical activity for a minimum of 3 times per week (Marks, 2002). Our wellness program services 45 clients per week, just over 13% of those who ambulate independently.
