Recommended Types of Exercises
- Specialized prenatal exercise classes. The instructors are trained to monitor your response to exercise and can share important knowledge.
- Floor work (note: avoid exercising on your back or stomach after the first trimester as this position is associated with decreased cardiac output in most pregnant women).
- Cardiovascular training, particularly low-impact aerobics.
- Strength and endurance training (though, if you have never performed resistance training prior to conception it is recommended that you begin this activity post-birth).
