Celebrate and get moving!

By Whitney Neal

The 20th annual Family Health and Fitness Day (FHFD) is Saturday, September 24, 2016. This event, sponsored by the Health Information Resource Center (HIRC), aims to promote family involvement in exercise by emphasizing the importance and fun of regular physical activity. The benefits of physical activity include reducing your risk for high blood pressure, heart disease, and some types of cancer. Exercise can also help reduce your stress, improve your mood, and strengthen your bones and muscles.

At FHFD, families will have the opportunity to participate at locations throughout the country including hospitals, health clubs, YMCAs, state and county health departments, park districts, houses of worship, and schools. This year’s programs will include health fairs, family walks, exercise demonstrations, and more. For more information about this fun day, check out the Family Health and Fitness day website: fitnessday.com/family
