Fresh air, new friends and lots of camping fun is in store for children from Michigan and Indiana who take part in the American Cancer Society, Great Lakes Division Camp Catch-A-Rainbow program. The camp, held at the YMCA Storer Camps near Jackson, Mich., is available free of charge to children between the ages of seven and 15-years-old who are being treated for cancer or who are in remission. A special Young Campers Day is held for campers (ages four to six) who may not enjoy an overnight camp-out, but still want to be a part of the fun.
Camp Catch-A-Rainbow provides kids the opportunity to relax and enjoy the experience of exercise, recreation and companionship through activities paced to meet the needs of a young cancer patient. There is so much to see and do including swimming, horseback riding, canoeing, arts and crafts, and much more. Health care professionals are available 24 hours a day and most medical treatments, with the exception of radiation therapy, can be done on-site or at Ingham Regional Medical Center. Campers must have physician approval to attend.
