Notes

The American Diabetes Association Triangle D Camp resident program is located at the YMCA Camp Duncan in Ingleside, Illinois.

Camp Duncan is situated on semi-private Fish Lake. Rolling prairie, large mowed sports fields, dense woods and marshland blend to form an ideal setting for a quality camp experience. Spacious cabins, all-purpose buildings and an impressive dining hall overlooking the lake are part of the camp facilities. An indoor Olympic-sized swimming pool allows for swimming in all types of weather. A well-equipped health center is available to meet the needs of our campers.

Activities include swimming, row boating, canoeing, high ropes (11-13 yr. olds), climbing tower (8-10 yr. olds), camp games, singing, archery, campfires, soccer, basketball, volleyball and diabetes education! ADA provides the volunteer medical staff. The camp provides their well-trained program, counseling and kitchen staff. The kitchen staff works with our ADA dietitians to develop the menus for the camp week. The camp program offers parents the opportunity to meet with the camper's medical staff person at the beginning and the end of the camp session.

A product fair is also offered on the opening day of camp. Guided by an attending physician with intense experience in the adjustment of insulin, diet and activity components, medical care and supervision are provided by a conscientious group of resident physicians, nurses and dietitians. Campers are seen several times daily for insulin adjustments and blood glucose checking appropriate for daily activities. Triangle D Camp combines a program of summer activities with a program of diabetes education and support. Both components are designed to challenge each camper to reach toward their maximum potential, both mentally and physically. The campers are actively involved with their medical staff in managing their diabetes.
