The ADA Camp Discovery day camp program is held at Health Track in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. It is a modern wellness facility providing pool and gymnasium use, activity rooms and limited use of the outside area for games and activities. A new park opening across the street will provide play/activity area. Activities include games, swimming, arts & crafts, nature appreciation and diabetes education.

The ADA provides all of the volunteer program and activity supervision, as well as the volunteer medical staff. The host facility provides the pool staff and maintenance support. A parent orientation will take place prior to the start of camp. "Sharing Time" for parents, facilitated by leaders in the field of diabetes, is scheduled 2 or 3 times at the start of the camp day.

Care of diabetes in the camp setting is achieved by a volunteer team of health/allied professionals working together in an interdisciplinary manner with the volunteer camp program staff. The care is sensitive to the needs and concerns of the children. It integrates with diabetes education. Camp Discovery provides children with the opportunity to participate in recreational activities while developing independence and confidence in caring for their diabetes. Siblings are welcome.
