Notes

Camp Carolina Trails is an exciting week of summer fun for boys and girls ages 9 through 15. The camp is unique because it is designed specifically for youth with diabetes. Camp Carolina Trails is sponsored each summer by the American Diabetes Association, Central North Carolina. The camp currently houses 132 youth with sleeping quarters assigned by age groups. Campers are housed in well-maintained cabins with adult chaperones. All camp activities are supervised by experienced personnel including a complete medical and dietary staff, as well as camp counselors.

Camper activities are divided into four groups:
  • Explorer Campers - entering grades 4-5. Each Explorer camper will be supported by an older teenager from our camp version of a mentoring program.

  • Navigator Campers - entering 11th grade - This program offers a wilderness adventure based experience that stresses the practical use of leadership, communication and team-building skills. Campers will live away from the main campus in tents and prepare some of their own food. Participants will plan and implement activities for the Explorer campers through our camp version of a mentoring program. There will be plenty of fun while utilizing the many challenging activities that the Camp Hanes facility has to offer. Also, a special overnight adventure promises to make this program unique. The Navigator program is designed as a natural progression for teens reaching an age of increasing independence.
