Notes

Camp EDI is an acronym for the three cornerstones of a healthy, active life: Exercise, Diet and Insulin. Medical professionals are on staff at all times supervising blood sugars, insulin doses, and diets. A Health Lodge is located on site with hospital facilities nearby. Staff consists of Pediatric Endocrinologists, nurses, dietitians and counselors. All counselors are over 18 years of age, most having personal diabetes management experience. All staff undergoes a screening process and receives a minimum of 24 class-time hours of pre-camp training.

Camp offers campers the opportunity to experience the fun of camp in a medically safe environment. Besides the typical camp activities, such as swimming, canoeing and horseback riding, campers participate in daily, wellness classes, diabetes education with a member of our medical staff. The campers learn diabetes self-management skills and the importance of counting carbohydrates, diet and exercise. They also learn to be more independent in their diabetes management while at camp. Most importantly, they are able to interact with other children who relate to the challenges of living with diabetes. All medical supplies are provided with the exception of pump supplies and type 2 oral medications.
