• Fee to participate in the Program : Eligible campers residing in Adams, Pike, Brown, and Hancock counties in Illinois can attend Camp Callahan at NO CHARGE except for a small registration fee through funding provided by Camp Callahan, Inc. Campers from other areas are charged $450 for a one-week session. Prospective campers from outside the four-county area should contact the Camp Callahan, Inc. office for suggestions on securing the camp fee.

Camp Callahan, Incorporated, now in its 49th year of service to people with disabilities, offers a program that provides an exciting, safe, summer camp experiece. Camp Callahan Inc., their volunteers, and the facilities of the Mississippi Valley Council of Boy Scouts of America, will combine to make this unique program a success.

Camp Callahan is dedicated to serving youth with wide-ranging disabilities through a stimulating, liberating program in an environment that is physically and socially adapted to the personal needs of these very special campers. The camp has the specialized environment, equipment, activities, accessible buildings, and a trained adult staff to overcome the barriers that a person with disabilities would encounter at ordinary summer camps.

The facilities at the Saukenauk Scout Reservation have been specifically adapted for and provided especially to meet the needs of Camp Callahan's campers through funds raised by Camp Callahan, Incorporated. Hard-roofed sleeping shelters are provided for the physically disabled, and ambulatory campers sleep in comfortable platform tents.

The "Callahan Express", a specially designed trailer, provides transportation between program areas for campers with mobility impairments.

Along the trails crossing the camp are many activity areas; a special Arts & Crafts shelter, the camp's swinging bridge, a variety of nature study areas, the horseback riding area and the waterfront are used by all campers. The air conditioned Nurse's Lodge is located along the main camp road between the campsites and the dining hall. The dining hall is equipped with accessible toilet facilities, and it doubles as the "rainy day" activity center.
