The questionnaire completed by the participants included sociodemographic information, measures of severity of impairment, and health-promoting behaviors. The measurement tool to determine impairment was the Incapacity Status Scale (ISS) and included 16 items of personal functioning (ambulation, vision, bladder and bowel functioning, etc.) rated on a 5-point scale. Internal consistency reliability was 0.86. The tool to assess health promotion practices was the Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile II (HPLP-II), which included 52 items on a 4-point behavior frequency scale broken down into six subscales: physical activity, spiritual growth, health responsibility, interpersonal relations, nutrition, and stress management. Internal consistency reliability of the total score was 0.92; subscales ranged from 0.74 to 0.86.
