Inclusion and Adaptation

From an inclusion standpoint, the NSCD serves as an excellent model. Activities and programs are designed so families and friends of participants with disabilities can engage in the same activities side-by-side, leading to shared experiences and enriched relationships. Additionally, the organization creates and hosts several camps and activities for individuals with shared specific disabilities and conditions, allowing for true peer-to-peer connections. Beyond sport, it also offers inclusion lessons to help participants better learn how to function and interact in various day-to-day situations such as work, school, and other activities of daily living.

Finally, the NSCD features a 2,100 square-foot adaptive equipment lab in Winter Park, CO. This allows the NSCD to go above and beyond providing basic accessibility accommodations necessary for adaptive therapeutic recreation. In and through this lab, the organization is able to further tailor, customize, and completely individualize various pieces of adaptive equipment, ensuring that each program participant is able to experience an activity to their maximum ability and enjoyment. Truly, through its lab, staff, and programs, the NSCD has created and continues to foster and improve a culture and model of inclusion.
