Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, and Other Interactive Networking Sites

Facebook is the largest social network in the world. It provides users with multiple communication outlets, including personal profiles, walls on which users can write and comment, direct messaging and chat options, personal blogs, and photo sharing, to name a few. Facebook continually adds to and expands upon all of its options, constantly increasing and fine-tuning users' communication options.

When utilizing Facebook or any other social network that provides multiple communication options, such as Google+ and LinkedIn, adhere to the following strategies to make communications through the interactive platforms inclusive.

 Inclusion Guidelines
  • Create original posts on personal/organizational and others’ walls/home pages that feature or highlight individuals with disabilities and/or aspect of the disability community.
  • When highlighting/promoting/linking to other content, make sure to include resources (content, links, images, videos, buttons, badges, etc.) that focus on or highlight individuals with disabilities and/or some aspect of the disability community.
  • If utilizing “Like,” “Subscribe,” or similar features to or on other home pages, walls, and profiles, include pages that feature individuals with disabilities and/or are focused on some aspect of the disability community.
