Established in 1968, Special Olympics Basketball is a version of the sport offered for athletes with intellectual disabilities. Basketball is one of the top sports played throughout Special Olympics for athletes of all ages and abilities. It offers adaptations to the FIBA rules that are optional during team competition. Examples of adaptations include: length of the game, two steps before a traveling violation, and 10 seconds to shoot a free throw.
