Before beginning a new exercise program or routine:
- Obtain physician consent
- If you are able to walk make sure to have good shoes, as feet usually swell and increase by half a size
- It is normal to see a rise in heart rate and breathing rate while exercising
- A rise in body temperature may also be seen (not to rise above 102 degrees F)
- Remember that you may have to do things differently with your new body size so be prepared to adjust, and make sure you are in a safe environment before your try something; e.g., make sure to make a safe transfer and that you will not hit anything around you if you lose your balance
