Step 2: Obtain Permission

In many cases, if the formal program is an additional part of the physical education program, and there is out-of-class-training involved, the permission of parents, tutor, student (if appropriate), and administrators is imperative. In a case where the entire class is part of the tutoring program, such as with class-wide peer tutoring, there may be no need for permissions.

Sample Parental Permission Slip

Dear Parents/Guardians,
The physical education department would like to start a peer tutoring program. We are writing to ask your permission to allow your child to participate in this program. Your child has expressed a desire to serve as a peer tutor, and we believe that he/she will be effective. Tutors will be trained during free time and will be matched with a student who is experiencing difficulty in physical education. Your child will continue to participate in physical education activities but will also help teach and monitor skills. Your child may decide to terminate this experience with no form of penalty. If you agree to allow your child to participate in the peer tutoring program, please sign the permission slip below and return to the physical education staff. Also, please have your child fill out the peer tutoring application enclosed. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at (000) 000-0000. Thank you.
Sincerely,
The Physical Education Staff
I give my child permission to participate in the peer tutoring program.
