Float on Back/Backstroke


To help your child get comfortable on his or her back in the water, remind him or her to keep his or her belly button up, and have him or her:

  • Look at the ceiling or sky
  • Fill his or her belly with air to float
  • Relax, laying like he or she is in bed
  • Add in small baby kicks
  • Add arms, pulling them straight up to the sky by touching his or her ears and back down by his or her hips using these cues
    • "Tickle," "T," "Touch"
