Tips for Eating Out

Eating at a Convenience Store

  • Fresh fruit is sold by the register at many convenience stores
  • Granola bars like Nature Valley are great snack options
  • Half of a protein meal bar like Special K can be quite filling as a snack
  • If you want chips, choose the baked versions instead
  • Avoid the full calorie sodas and sport drinks; go for the bottled water
  • Stop at a gas station that is connected to a healthier fast food restaurant to get a proper meal instead of snacking all day (Subway, for example)

Dining on Fast Food

  • Grilled chicken sandwiches and deli wraps are great options for healthy on-the-go eating as are salads with grilled chicken and light dressing
  • Avoid French fries and full calorie sodas
  • Order water and add a bit of calorie-free flavoring (Mio or Dasani) in your cup
