It's a New Year; Why Not Try Something New?

By:  Allison Hoit and Kelly Bonner

NCHPAD is pleased to announce a new newsletter column entitled the Kids Korner! This column was created to engage kids, parents, and professionals working with youth with a disability. According to the 2003-2008 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), “Obesity rates for children with disabilities are 38 percent higher than for children without disabilities.” Kids Korner will focus on reducing barriers to participation in physical activity and public health for youth with a disability by empowering self-advocacy skills, adaptation concepts, and methods to make health a priority. Please send potential topic areas that you would like to see discussed to email@nchpad.org with a subject heading of “Kids Korner.”

It’s a New Year, Why Not Try Something New?

This month’s Kids Korner will focus on a variety of physical activity and health topics to interest you into trying something new or varying an activity in which you already participate. We understand that routines are hard to break, but this month, take up the challenge to discover new physical activities and health habits to kick off another new year the healthy way!
