This cluster of three large 15, 20 and 24 inch high containers in the Enabling Garden 'Container Court' at the CBG is accessible to seated or standing children and adults and represents the easiest way to start an enabling garden. Plant containers are available in a great variety of materials, shapes and colors. The most important benefit is that they bring the soil to a comfortable height for work. The light weight terra cotta colored heavy duty plastic shown here is a relatively inexpensive choice and good quality plastic containers should last many years. You can begin your own container garden with very little expense. A five gallon plastic pail recycled from a bakery makes a fine container for growing a tomato plant.
