NCHPAD - Building Healthy Inclusive Communities

Font Size:

From the Editor's Desk

In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, we at NCHPAD encourage everyone to fight for change to support the health promotion needs of underserved populations including people with disabilities. We must challenge public health officials and federal agencies to dedicate more effort to serving people with disabilities, a group that is often at the bottom of the priority list for resources related to health-promotion and wellness.

Volunteer or contribute to the Katrina disaster relief funds: http://www.ncpad.org/694/3223/2005-09-01#1.

Featured in this issue is the new FITT Corner, "Fitness Ideas, Trends, & Topics" in which new and accessible fitness ideas and trends will be discussed. Other highlights include a video review on yoga for persons with multiple sclerosis; a book review on multiple sclerosis and self-care; a softball video clip for persons with disabilities; a nutrition corner on increasing fiber intake; and two new NCHPAD documents, one on treadmill exercise for persons with intellectual/developmental disabilities, and another on challenge courses. And don't forget to submit your abstract for our upcoming RERC RecTech State of the Science Conference!
