Power Wheelchairs

Another common type of wheelchair is the power wheelchair. Powered by a lead-gel acid battery, these wheelchairs are used by persons with little to no movement in the upper body and limbs. Power wheelchairs are controlled by a manually operated joystick, allowing the chair to accelerate, decelerate and reverse. To assure that the power wheelchair functions properly, the battery must be charged daily and the wheelchair must be given regular maintenance.
