Over the past several years, the lightweight, rigid-frame wheelchair and the suspension wheelchair have provided new options and alternatives to the traditional folding wheelchair.
Manual Wheelchairs
Manual wheelchairs were first invented for war veterans in the 19th century. Manual chairs are used by persons with disabilities who have enough upper-body movement in the shoulders, arms and wrists to push the rims of the wheelchairs. Manual wheelchairs are often equipped with footplates, brakes and arm rests. Many accessories can be added to a personal wheelchair, such as cushions, seat inserts or anti-tip casters.
