DVD-Review: Fit For the Future

Fit for the Future
Developed by:
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Shriners Hospital for Children

Fit for the Future is collaboration between the Shiners Hospital for Children and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). This unique DVD integrates a complete stretching, strengthening and cardiovascular workout with segments in which FBI employees, both with and without disabilities, discuss the various ways in which people of all abilities can make a valuable contribution to the FBI workforce. However, in order to do so, one must be healthy and fit, and that is where this video comes into play.

The exercise segments of the video feature a diverse range of adults and children of varying abilities; the set and music are pleasant and unobtrusive. The video is chaptered, so users may isolate, skip or repeat different segments; for example, it is recommended that one build up to doing the "stamina" section twice in a row to achieve 20 minutes of cardiovascular activity. The workout begins with a series of simple, yoga based stretches such as half moon and tree pose. Modifications for those who are seated or have limitations are suggested for all moves. The next segment is strength, and includes 10 exercises for various parts of the body. This section incorporates the use of exercise bands, towels, weights, and a medium sized ball, though all moves can be performed without equipment as well. The last section consists of 10 minutes of moves designed to keep the heart rate up for an aerobic workout. Examples of moves included arm circles, wood chops, as well as some dance-based moves children may find fun such as "raise the roof".
