The Exercise Segments: Aerobics, Strengthening and Flexibility


AEROBIC WORKOUT SEGMENT

The aerobics segment features four adult participants exercising in an indoor setting, some participants are seated and some are standing. The segment starts off with a 5-minute aerobic warm-up, followed by a high-energy 25-minute aerobic exercise session , and ends with a 6-minute cool-down.

  • music only option



STRENGTH and FLEXIBILITY SEGMENT

Strength training is an important component of any exercise program. Exercises in this segment are performed using an elastic resistance band, elastic tubing, or free weights.

Sections include:

  • assistive equipment - features Thera-band elastic resistance bands, flexbars, and powerweb exerciser; free weights and ankle weights
  • warm-up exercise session
  • strength training exercises - 20 exercise options
  • flexibility and cool down - 18 exercise options



An explanation of different strength training guidelines and definitions of commonly-used exercise terms are included in this segment. As each exercise is presented, the viewer is first shown which muscles are being used or strengthened. An exercise demonstration follows, complete with a step-by-step explanation on how to do the exercise correctly and safely. For some of the exercises in this segment, an alternative exercise option is provided.

The flexibility section provides the viewer with 18 stretching exercises, slowly cooling down the viewer after a vigorous aerobic or strength training session. As with the previous segments, the flexibility component provides the viewer with the appropriate guidelines and precautions specific to this segment.
