Exercise Precautions and Guidelines


The Exercise Program for Stroke Survivors exercise video is a great at-home workout program. This video is a great resource for physical therapy and stroke rehab facilities, as well as fitness centers who have clients that are stroke survivors. It can also be used as a low-impact standing and/or seated exercise option for people with other disabilities or chronic health conditions.



The Precautions section of the video provides first-time viewers with vital information regarding:

  • the health benefits and importance of exercise
  • special considerations for stroke survivors
  • home-based equipment options
  • general guidelines for:
    • finding your pulse (brachial and carotid)and determining your pulse rate
    • monitoring your heart rate and determining your maximum heart rate to determine exercise intensity
    • using the Borg Modified Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE) scale
    • choosing the right amount of resistance for your strength training program
    • the warm-up & cool-down exercises
    • the effects of certain medications
