NCHPAD - Building Healthy Inclusive Communities

Note

The ramps into and out of the Whitewater Park also serve to provide a ‘universal design’ concept in the park. The ingress and egress into the parks have so far satisfied risk management concerns over safe access to and from the water for all users. The previous design did not fully address a safe and user-friendly entrance and exit to the park. However, careful planning with all types of users (parks maintenance, special events vendors, and recreation program staff) should be considered to address all of the needs in the design process. For example, it is important to garner feedback from maintenance personnel, potential vendors, and recreation programmers, as well as users in order to provide a design that best meets everyone’s needs.
