Harding Middle School (Cedar Rapids Community School District, IA) won the $1,000 1st Place Prize in the 2016 Let’s Move! Active Schools Inclusive Physical Education and Physical Activity Video Contest.
More than 30 schools from across the country entered the contest, showcasing adaptations and modifications to physical education activities such as exercises, games, rhythms, and sports to ensure students of all ability levels are able to engage in physical activity.
The 10 winning video submissions include:
1st Place ($1,000) - “Breaking Barriers With Bella and Buddies” submitted by Harding Middle School (Cedar Rapids Community School District, IA)
2nd Place ($750) – “Inclusive Class Design” submitted by Pelham Oaks Elementary (Pelham School System, AL)
3rd Place ($500) - “Adaptive PE” submitted by Emmett Middle School (JSD #221 Emmett, ID)
Honorable Mentions ($250):
“After School Circus Fitness: Aiden's Story” submitted by Longfellow Elementary (Salida Schools, CO)
“Fairley Fun for Everyone” submitted by Fairley Elementary (Hannibal Central Schools, NY)
“Inclusion@SilviaSchool” submitted by Frank M. Silvia School (Fall River Public Schools, MA)
“Personalized Learning at Turner PE” submitted by Harvey Turner Elementary (Pasadena Independent School District, TX)
“SAC P.E. Eval.” submitted by Rama Road Elementary (Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, NC)

“Wake Forest High PEPI” submitted by Wake Forest High School (Wake County Schools, NC)
“Many teachers and school leaders have questions about how best to include children with disabilities in physical education and physical activity. Being able to spotlight videos of schools that have already successfully implemented inclusive activities provides educators with practice-based examples of activities they can easily emulate in their respective learning environments,” said Amy Rauworth, Director of Policy & Public Affairs at Lakeshore Foundation.
While the video contest strived to celebrate schools that are effectively prioritizing inclusive Active School environments, it also was designed to encourage other teachers to think about how to organize movement-based lessons so that all students can participate and enjoy the positive benefits of physical education and physical activity.
