About My name is Gopi. Two years ago I was diagnosed with Guillain Barre Syndrome. Subsequently, that diagnosis became CIDP — chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy. I now use a wheelchair but through physical therapy I've begun to use my walker and a cane with increasing success. My strength is getting better, but since this is a chronic condition I must manage my exertion and exhaustion levels. I also am concerned about diet and losing weight because I've been inactive except for in-home physical therapy.I have begun to incorporate green smoothies and raw foods based on a diet recommended by one of my doctors. My PCP has also recommended a 1500 calorie low sodium (no more than 3000 mg daily) diet. I currently eat a primarily vegetarian diet; however, I do include fish and poultry. I love to write; I am a writer. I have a blog that was an important part of my healing while in hospitals. I love music and tend to be a cerebral sort who loves meeting new people. Let's see, what else? I am just beginning to go out to shop, visit the library, in addition to medical appointments, after almost 2 years of being home bound. I will need fun ways to stay active during the winter months because my access to outdoors will be limited at that time.

Welcome to NCPAD's 14-Week Program to a Healthier You!

What is the program?

  • Description: A free, personalized, web-based physical activity and nutrition program
  • Target Audience: People with mobility limitations, chronic health conditions and physical disabilities
  • Goal: To help you get moving and making healthy nutrition choices
  • Duration: 14 weeks

How does it work?

  • You register for the program and tell us a little about yourself.
  • We take the information you gave us and, to the best of our abilities, provide you with personalized resources and exercises that meet your individual needs over the course of 14 weeks.
  • Because there is new material each week that builds on the previous weeks, the program works best if you visit at least once a week.
