Nutrition SpotlightLighten Up This Thanksgiving

Did you know that there can be many health benefits to a Thanksgiving Day meal? By eating from a variety of dishes your body is able to receive a bunch of different nutrients that it might not normally be getting. The Thanksgiving Day meal is also great because it is a time when people can sit down and enjoy their food and the friends and family that may be gathered around their table. Take advantage of this joyful time and check out some delicious, healthier recipes in this month’s column.

Sometimes when we are caught up in the business of the routine of life it is hard to take a step back and realize the many blessings around you, especially if that business includes learning how to navigate life with a child who has a disability. But that shouldn’t stop you from enjoying this season of change and taking a moment to look at all the many things for which you have to be thankful. This month, as the holidays approach, let’s go through an exercise on thankfulness.

F.I.T.T. Column:  A New Comprehensive Nutrition Curriculum for Teenagers with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities

A group led by Linda Bandini, PhD, RD, from the University of Massachusetts Medical School, believes that adolescents with intellectual disabilities (ID) would benefit greatly from nutrition education programs that specifically addressed their cognitive and communicative needs. That’s where Health U’s curriculum comes into play.
