  • 98 returned interest survey 60 returned barriers to participation survey
  • 84 admitted to study

After physician screening of returned interest surveys, 84 people were admitted to the study. Of these enrolled 84, 68 actually attended the baseline assessment clinic to begin the study process. At this first clinical session (March 24 or June 23, 2001), participants were randomly assigned to either the intervention (Workshop) group (n=36) or the Control group (n=32). Any given participant completely finished the study by attending the 3 required clinical assessments, completing three self-report Home Surveys and, for workshop participants, attending a minimum of four of the six intervention sessions. As the study progressed, total sample numbers declined; 57 attended the post-workshop clinical assessment, and 44 (65% of the original baseline group) attended the final clinical assessment, completing the full seven-month clinical trial. Over the course of the workshop program, four people dropped out and one person missed more than 2 of the 6 sessions (exclusion criteria for participation), giving a total of 31 people (86%) who successfully completed the workshops.
